From Kitchen Talk to Collective Care
Born in South Central LA and raised on kitchen table talk, cousin laughter, and the power of coming together, Melanated Moments was created from a simple knowing: some of the most sacred forms of care have always existed among us.
In the stories passed across generations. In hair braided on the porch. In music filling the living room. In granny's tough love, auntie affirmations, hoop earrings hitting shoulders, dance circles, Sunday prayers, shared meals, and the sacred stillness we rarely give ourselves.
Melanated Moments Soul Care Collective exists to honor those ways of caring while creating room for what we need now. We create culturally rooted experiences, connect melanated communities to meaningful pathways for care, and celebrate the people, stories, rituals, and traditions that remind us who we are.
This is for the daughters and the grannies, the men who need rest, and the boys we're raising to know that softness is strength.
For the ancestors with untold stories.
For the women who healed in silence.
For the men who carried too much.
For the babies still learning their worth.
For those who never had the words.
And for those who are finding them now.
This isn't wellness separated from culture or community.
It's cultural. It's soulful. It's for the people.
Here, rest is radical.
Style is ceremony.
Joy is medicine.
Remembrance is sacred.
And healing is a birthright.
One joyful, sacred, MELANATED MOMENT at a time.
Melanated Moments is where joy, legacy, culture, and healing meet.

Meet the Founder
Kirsten Ki'ar "KP"
Mental Health First Aider • Sacred Self-Care Coach • Community Connector
Kirsten’s journey toward founding Melanated Moments is deeply tied to her South Central Los Angeles roots, her extensive background in healthcare, and her personal evolution in wellness. It began in her childhood home, inspired by the dedicated way her mother cared for her grandmother. This foundation led her to a nursing career spanning over ten years, where she served seniors in underserved areas of LA. Through this, she learned to look past clinical needs to truly honor a person’s identity and story.
Her transitions into the mental health sector further expanded this perspective. By focusing on community outreach and wellness engagement, she bridges the gap between marginalized groups and vital health resources. Kirsten understands that cultural trust and accessibility are the primary drivers of effective care, emphasizing the importance of meeting individuals exactly where they stand.
Her commitment is fueled by lived experience. Having navigated profound grief, family challenges, and the weight of being a primary caregiver, she understands the exhaustion of maintaining outward strength while needing inward restoration. In 2016, a pivotal moment of self-reflection shifted her focus toward breaking generational cycles and finding her own voice, viewing healing as a continuous, active rhythm that protects our collective future.
Now, as a certified Mental Health First Aider and Sacred Self-Care Coach, Kirsten uses her professional expertise to foster spaces where melanated individuals can reclaim their peace and thrive. She advocates for self-tending as a way to honor one's lineage and evolve beyond old limitations. In Melanated Moments, her clinical knowledge and soulful mission converge.
She leads with artistic vision and a steadfast belief that this work is her calling, all while remaining a student of her own growth and transformation.
